How does virtual work?

So glad you asked because it really is great. First, the technology we use makes it easy to work together. And, if you have any concerns at all – rest easy. If you want or need help – we love showing you how. Our bookkeeping, tax, and portals are all leading in the industry. They take the same pains banks and the department of defense do to protect our information. We rarely exchange ‘paper’. A picture can be taken, a form scanned and info entered with just a few clicks. And, ‘meeting’…super easy too. We use leading video tech available to all at no cost. Then, of course, we still have the telephone when it makes more sense. Your comfort matters to us and we do our best to make it as convenient as possible as long as we are compliant with the law and ensure security.

How much does bookkeeping cost?

Bookkeeping costs are highly variable. Time, complexity, type of business, current state of the books, and more can impact the level of bookkeeping skill & expertise needed. Here’s the key … you will know in advance, you will never be surprised and in most cases, your fee will be the same from month to month.

What is a bookkeeping 'diagnostic'?

Great question. This is the holy grail. Many bookkeepers will sign you up with knowing very little about your biz or what you want to accomplish OR the current state of your books. This rarely turns out well. We usually require a paid diagnostic first. We will review your books and provide you with a detailed report about the good, the bad, and maybe even the ugly. It will include a cost for cleanup and also monthly ongoing bookkeeping services. YOU then get to make a really well-informed decision about your next steps. This leads to amazingly positive relationships between Labrador and our clients when they choose to move forward.

Can you help a 'start-up' with bookkeeping?

We may be able to. Together we can assess where you are and what you need. It is critical to do it right from the beginning even if that means we help you DIY for a short time. Reach out. Let’s talk.

Do I need to sign a long-term contract?

No. We do not do contracts. At all. We do engagement letters that spell out our responsibilities and yours plus costs. For bookkeeping, you can cancel services with 42 days (6 weeks) notice. That time matters because even when stopping service, there are loose ends to tie up for your protection and ours – not to mention it’s just the right thing to do for your business.

How much does tax prep & filing cost?

Tax preparation and filing fees will vary with the complexity of a return. As of January 1, 2023, our minimum fee is $300. In general, fees for tax prep and filing range from $300 to thousands depending upon the complexity and the expertise required. Please keep in mind business filings are usually more complex than individual filings and therefore, do cost more. We will provide an estimate for you and require partial payment before work begins. The balance due is collected after reviewing your return and before e-filing.

*Fees are subject to change.

How long will it take to finish my taxes?

We begin working on your taxes once all documents requested/needed are received. At that time, your file then moves to our ‘ready to go’ list where we complete them using a ‘first in first out’ process. For individual taxes (1040 or similar) and your docs are received by March 15, our goal is to have them completed by April 18 (the IRS due date in 2023). We do reserve the right to file an extension for you if all needed paperwork is not received by March 15. These dates may also differ if there are changes requested or if previously unknown information arises. For some businesses, this process and timeline may differ.

Do you outsource work to foreign countries?

No. We are aware some firms outsource bookkeeping and tax work overseas. We never will.
